CN MOVIES’ VINTAGE MOVIE CHANNEL INTRODUCES
HOLLYWOOD GREATS AND BLOOPERS
by Anonymous
The first in a series of features exploring the work of Hollywood Greats, takes a look at John Wayne, one of the most successful actors of his generation. Best remembered for roles in films like 'Stagecoach' (1939), 'Rio Grande' (1950), and 'The Man who shot Liberty Valance' (1962), his acting abilities were under-rated until much later in his career, but fellow actors remembered him as very professional, always knowing his lines and how to hit the mark. This specially selected lesser known shorts from the early days in his career, help reveal how the ‘Duke’ developed the tough guy persona in films that would make him a role model for young men and build him up as an action star.
Bud Abbott and Lou Costello’s comedy was dependent on caricature and contrast - one was fat, the other thin, one was foolhardy, the other nervous. We have put together a collection of Bloopers from a period when they were Universal’s top stars, including clips from ‘Pardon My Sin’ (1942), ‘Naughty Nineties’ (1945), and ‘Here Come the Coeds’ (1945).
Humphrey Bogart, considered one of the greatest screen phenomenons in the history of Cinema, made his screen debut in the early 1930’s. His big breakthrough came when he played the vicious killer Duke Manatee in ‘The Petrified Forest’ on Broadway. ‘The Maltese Falcon’ (1941) and ‘Casablanca’ (1942) were just two of the films that served to boost his stardom. Our selection of Bloopers include clips from the high point of Bogie’s career, including ‘Key Largo’ (1948) and ‘The Big Sleep’ (1946).
Ronald Reagan was not only the President of the United States, but a man who could ‘play’ the role very well. He was best known for his role in ‘Bedtime in Bonzo’ (1951), where he played a professor trying to teach moral values to a chimpanzee. In this collection of Bloopers, we catch some of the many occasions where he fails to do the simplest acting job such as zip up his pants. The clips feature Reagan in films from his most prolific period as an actor, including ‘Voice of the Turtle’ (1947) and ‘That Hagen Girl’ (1947).
